Thoughts

So Christmas has come and gone! I actually had a fantastic Christmas this year. Becky and I had a very nice time together. I'm not going to go on about what we got or anything, so you don't have to worry. Becky worked both Christmas eve and Christmas day overnight, so she spent much of the time sleeping which I am very grateful for. I went to bed around midnight because I wasn't feeling well on Christmas eve and woke up about six to try and have breakfast ready by the time she got home. And I almost did! Go me. I am going to share some random thoughts and experiences I've had recently. So here goes!

I have never before realized how hard it is to shop for a girl. Last year she had given me some pretty specific advice or at least heavy hints. This year? She said a bathrobe and slippers and left the rest up to me. It was hard! Lucky for me I had some people willing to help out, so thank you to the both of you who helped :)

Speaking of getting Becky presents, I was at Sephora in JC Penny getting her some Bareminerals makeup she had run out of and this girl was helping me with this huge rock on her ring finger. She was being very friendly and everything and when she found out it was a Christmas present to Becky she got super excited and asked me what else I was getting for her. I said "well she asked for a bathrobe...some slippers..."and she was giving me the look that is familiar to so many, the look of a slightly turned up nose, thinking "I am so glad I'm not married to you." I have rarely felt that stupid, and so I trailed off but not before I said "a necklace." She suddenly lit up and said "you should get one from Tiffany's!" "Uhm..?" "Yeah they're on super sale right now; I was on their website today. They're only 100 dollars!" "...yeah, I'll look into that." She had a look that she just saved Christmas, handed me the bag and I walked away. I didn't know how to tell her that we had set ourselves on a limit that those necklaces would have far exceeded at this point in time.

I got Becky some tenth anniversary Les Miserables concert DVD with the original Jean Val Jean and we watched it Christmas day. I figured since she watched one of her favorite musicals that I should do the same. So I watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog when she went to work. I loved every second.

Anyway, I'm going to try to take a half hour nap before work. I would write more, but I'm pretty tired. So I'll leave you with an opening song from Dr. Horrible, which you can listen to here. Have a great day and enjoy!

  2. Christmases (is that a word?) when you are newly married without a lot of cash can be a fun and interesting experience. Our first Christmas together, our budget was $20 each. The only reason we had a Christmas Tree was because my Mom & Dad paid for the $5 permit that let us cut one down. I remember how hard it was to walk in the store and see so many nice things that Michelle would have wanted and having to restrict myself to a few sale items that I found. However, when Christmas day came, you would have thought that I spent thousands of dollars on Michelle. In many ways, it really is the thought that you put into a gift that counts.
