Perspective

There are few things more subjective in this world than perspective. Everyone has one and they're all different.

It's from my experience that nearly all arguments, fights, disagreements, jealousies, etc. come from a difference in perspective. Of course they don't just stem from said difference; I guess it would be more of a combination of a hard head, a difference in perspective, and an unwillingness to see the other side. Still.

The reason this all came up is that as I was doing research on the University of Nebraska and reading publications from one of the professors that does the research I'm interested in and I found an article on neutrality, which is basically being open to multiple viewpoints, and the feminist viewpoint. Anyway I'm not going to summarize it because that would only be interesting to me and probably Ken, but still. It's one of my favorite publications.

Anyway. Perspectives.

Life's funny. What some people see as a family heirloom, another sees as junk. Someone sees breakfast, another sees the virgin Mary and a sign from God.

Someone like me sees Christmas break as a time of relaxation and laziness, someone like Becky sees it as a time for me to do all my grad school applications.

Guess who won?

No, it's been a good thing to finally buckle down to do it. Once they're done it will be great and one less thing to worry about. I'm actually pretty excited for it. Now if only I could find a third person to write my letter of recommendation...

Speaking of perspectives, remember that movie Blank Check? I thought it was so cool as a kid. I mean he outsmarted those criminals and everything! But now that I think about it, I think I've changed my mind. The only reason you're rooting for this kid is because the guy he stole 1 million dollars from is a criminal. Think about it. If you had the same movie but the guy who hit him and broke his bike was an absentminded father who had saved every penny he'd earned so his kids could go to college and suddenly had nothing, you would have a very different story indeed. When we first saw that movie, my dad said it was just about a little thief.

Smart guy.
