Everyone has their own ideas of what essentials are. For example, many people in the world are considering food and water essentials. Obviously we all do, but there are people who have to worry about that. On the other end of the spectrum, there are those who consider the essentials to be their iphone and lexus. Right now for me it's just my job so I can pay bills.
Anyway, that's not what I'm talking about.
Target is doing a huge back to school deal right now. Most of it is back to college. Did you know that the Orem Target has such a strong school demographic that it makes as much during some of these days as it does during the Christmas season? Weird. Anyway. There are huge hanging signs and all pointing out the college essentials. To be even more helpful, they have fliers at the front of the store with a big color coordinated list of all the college essentials, divided into dorm room and apartment categories. While this actually does seem very helpful, some of their ideas of essentials made me raise my eyebrows a little bit. Here is a list of the essentials that I am currently doing without:
Desk, Office Chair, Kraft Easy Mac, Ramen Noodles, Bottled Water, Frozen Pizza, Packaged Dinners, TV Dinners (which is apparently different), Washcloths, Bath Shelves, A second set of sheets, Bed Risers, Underbed storage, Shoe rack, Closet organizers, Storage Carts (what?), Bulletin Board, Cube storage, Ironing board, Swiffer, Mop/bucket, Toaster oven, Coffeemaker, Water filters, Drip pans, Ice cube trays, Shelf liners, Extension cords, Computer speakers, Calculator, Ottoman, Beanbag chair, Area rug, Slipcovers, Sofa bed, Curtains, and wall shelving.
So this is only from the list of apartment essentials. According to my calculations, I am missing 1/3 of the essentials. One third! That means I'm only getting 2/3 of my college experience! Do you understand that? That's a D. I am suddenly influenced to desperately need a bunch of things I didn't know I should have.
Somebody owes me for this.
