Movies

I used to someone who you could just sit down and watch movies with. Happily. Quietly. I used to be silent and enjoy them and it was great. I was proud of that person.

That person is now foreign to me.

Somewhere within the past year and a half-ish of marriage, I have lost that ability. I'm not certain why. Maybe it's because Becky has talked through every TV show that I like, maybe it's just for no reason. But I have come to confess: I am now a talker. Well, I guess I should give some explanations: I won't talk in the movie theater. And I won't talk usually if it's the first time that everyone has seen it. And I also usually won't talk in a group of people. But man, when it's just Becky and I, I'm sitting there asking questions and making speculations and that sweet wife of mine puts up with it the whole time without saying anything.

Case in point: we watched P.S. I Love You last night. Becky was really excited when I got it for her and she has been wanting to show it to me for two weeks or so and so we watched it last night. Guess who was talking?

"Phoebe's in this movie!?"
"So wait, is he dead?"
"Oh so he's not really dead."
"Oh he's really dead."
"Wait I thought he was dead."
"Why doesn't she just get with the guy from the Losers? (this is Gerry's Irish friend, just fyi)"
"So are they married in this flashback?"

You get the picture. I'm sure it drives her nuts, but she's a good sport. She'll even smile when I realize and say "okay I'll shut up sorry" but mostly probably because she knows I'll only last ten minutes.

By the way, I've apparently made her day because I own the song Fairytale of New York (the song that they play at his funeral). I've owned it since High School and have listened to it, oh, maybe three times.

Anyone want to come watch a movie?

  1. I've gone through the same evolution. I hate talking during movies, but I constantly make remarks to Seth whenever just the two of us watch something. Luckily for me he's the same way.
