So I have posted not one, not two, but three Christmas playlists in the past years. So instead of repeating myself yet again, I've decided to go the opposite route: songs that nobody wants to hear.
We all know these songs. They must be beloved by SOMEone, I mean why else would they be played? Again...and again...and again? All I know is that they are not enjoyed by me.
5. Santa Baby - Marilyn Monroe
This song is not inherently bad, but when you combine it with, er, her, you get disastrous results. Results like this. I'm really not sure what Ms. Monroe was truly good for, but her singing has about the same effect as Paris Hilton's album, which also sounds similar to nails on a chalkboard.
4. Celine Dion - So This Is Christmas
Now, the original of this song was groundbreaking. John Lennon, while one of my least favorite Beatles, was brilliant. I love some covers of this song. This cover, however, is painful.
3. Elmo & Patsy - Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
I will be the first to admit that I find this song entertaining. However, that in no way means it's a good showcase of musical genius.
2. Feliz Navidad
I'm really not certain what to say about this song. I mean, does anyone like it? It gets stuck in your head for days. DAYS.
1. Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime
Paul McCartney is one of the best musicians in the past 100 years. I don't think I have ever disliked one of his songs...except this one. I think Paul's thought process went something like this: "hey guys I got a synthesizer! Check out the sounds that I can make!" One of my favorite artists has released one of my least favorite songs ever. Paul, what have you done? What have you done?
Now to be honest, I feel that I have forgotten my original list and that numbers three and four are filler. It's possible. But seriously...these songs are like having to listen to Nickelback cover Ke$ha.
Anything I missed?

Hahaha! Amen and amen. Mark mocks Feliz Navidad every time he hears it, and the only thing I can say is, "But ... It's so catchy! And it gets stuck in your head! ... *long pause* OH PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!" And I hate Wonderful Christmastime, too. I read your list to Mark and he was like, "Great, thanks a lot - now I'll have those two songs stuck in my head all night long." Those two and pretty much universally take the cake for Most Annoying Christmas Songs ever. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer is hard to listen to, and any version of Santa Baby creeps me out. Kudos to you for nailing this list. ;) I'll have a hard time adding to it.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking there's got to be an old XKCD about Feliz Navidad. I'm not talking about the one that came out a few days ago ... Anyway ...
Andrew hates the Paul McCartney one, too, and I sing it all the time.
ReplyDeleteyes the Justin Beiber remake of all I want from Christmas with Mariah Carrey... how could you miss that one???

ReplyDeleteBecky likes that song
ReplyDeleteWhat about that one song where a whole bunch of kids sing "On this night, on this very christmas night" over and over and OVER again? I don't know the name, but I think it's the worst.
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas version of Cannon in D?
