Wasted Energy

Yes, it is already time for another one of Becky's public yet private rants.

The big thing on facebook among LDS people my age is the new rule at BYU-Idaho: No Skinny Jeans in the testing center.

Now, I would like to start this is a bit of a backgrounder for those of you who may not know some of this stuff. First, I went to BYUI, Ricks, Highschool on the hill. I was not there when there was no Taco Bell, shout out to my sister Bonnie. But I was there before the fancy auditorium, the new buildings that keep you inside during the snow and I was there when you could easily recognize everyone on campus. I had rules then too. No flip flops, shorts, that sort of stuff.

Onto my main point. Complaining about this is ridiculous. It was a decision made at a school you are privileged to be attending. When you applied there you knew that they had higher standards so you should've known what you were getting into. Secondly, you signed a code. You said "Yeah, I can do that and I will". Therefore, do it. Stop whining about it. If you really REALLY dont want to do it, buck up, save the money and go somewhere REALLY expensive!

I just dont get what the big deal is. They want to have a high standard where everyone is comfortable with those they are around and where they would feel comfortable with answering to the head of their school and the head of their church when they say "yes we hold them to a standard you would be proud of". I dont see why that is such an awful thing.

Did I wish I could wear flip flops? Sure. But I didnt make a stink about it.

Moral of this rant is, use your obviously pent up energy searching for a cause and go find something worth making a fuss about.

Note from the Editor:
I was going to let this one go, but I saw someone comment on a link to the original article about the new rule that basically said that they think heavy people look gross in skinny jeans and I thought that was really rude.

  1. I am totally with you there...I hate when people complain for silly thing like that. I too always think, if you don't think you can't follow the rule or don't want to follow it, go somewhere else...If not go somewhere else or do it and stop the whining.

  2. bahahaha! I actually just saw this on the news... evidently the testing center posted it independently of the rest of campus and the rule has been clarified. No where in the honor code are skinny jeans prohibited.

I completely agree. I got incredibly sick and tired of people complaining about a business causal wardrobe. Suck it up or go somewhere else.
